Dear parents and guardians,

As you may have already seen, Mayor Michael Hancock announced today that Denver has moved from Safer at Home Level 2 to Level 3. This reflects the recent increases in the number of COVID-19 cases in the area as well as other important health and safety trends. Safer at Home Level 3 comes with increased restrictions and requires more extensive precautions. For example, many businesses and organizations will have to scale back to 25% capacity (reduced from 50%). It is important to note that, if these trends do not change course, we could see a new Stay at Home order issued, which would require even more drastic measures, such as we saw last Spring.

The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance. With Mayor Hancock’s update today, we have determined that we must modify the plan that we announced last week. This modified plan will go into effect on Monday, November 2, as described below:

  • Postponing Two In-person Days per Week
Last week we communicated that students would begin attending classes in-person for two days per week. This is now postponed. Instead, students will continue coming in person for classes one day per week. Their current in-person day will remain the same.

  • Eliminating Yellow/Orange CWSP Training Days
Students will no longer have half-day programming on the morning of their CWSP workday. If students have a CWSP job placement, they will report for work as usual. Students who do not have a job placement will remain at home on their workday and engage in asynchronous training for CWSP.

  • Incorporating a New Bell Schedule with 7 Class Periods
Instead of the morning programming on CWSP workdays, we have created a new College & Career Readiness class for each grade level. This new class will be added into the school day. Each student’s class schedule will now have seven class periods, instead of six. The start and end times for the school day will remain the same, but we will follow a new bell schedule, which we will distribute this week.

We believe that taking these steps will be the best way for us to maintain the health and safety of our community at this time. These modifications will effectively reduce the number of students who are in the building each day, which aligns with what we should see around the city in the weeks ahead. We recognize that more changes in a short period of time may present further challenges for your family. Thank you for working with us through all this! And thank you for your continued efforts to support your student’s education at Arrupe! We sincerely desire to serve your family the best we can, and we look forward to remaining in touch with you.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Nugent
